Preciosa Dombele is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at the university Paris-Nanterre in France and temporary member of the Laboratory of Ethnology and Comparative Sociology (LESC) and the CREM of the CNRS. Her research addresses how Hillsong builds a ritual in which the individual is able to feel intimate with God in the middle of a crowd. Her PhD thesis is "Music, globalisation and shaping individuals: a musical anthropology of religious experience in megachurches". She undertook ethnographic investigation at Hillsong London and Paris for the last three years, and most recently, she started her new fieldwork in Sydney, with an specific foccus in the success of "Hillsong Experience" in different socio-cultural context, focusing on the role that religious music has in the construction of transnational community.
